Well, after several weeks and thousands of votes and online debates, LeVar Burton emerges as the 2024 Great Teachers of TV & Film Champion! Mr. Feeny held the lead for most of the final round, but it was a late surge of Reading Rainbow lovers that pushed LeVar over the top! Having two Hogwarts professors split the wizard vote.
I followed the rank choice voting protocols as well, and LeVar wins with 52% of the votes versus 48% for Feeny.
Thanks to everyone who participated. I am thinking through some new ways to approach this for 2025.
I asked Google Gemini to compose a speech from the perspective of last year's champion, Mister Rogers, announcing the winner. Here's what happened!
**********
Howdy neighbors! Mister Rogers here, and can I just say, what a tremendous day it is in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe!
First off, I want to thank each and every one of you who took the time to cast your vote in the Great Teachers of TV and Film competition. It truly shows the wonderful, warm respect we all have for the folks who helped us learn and grow on those flickering screens.
Now, before we crown this year's champion, let's take a moment to acknowledge all the fantastic nominees. Professor Dumbledore, wise and kind, always guiding young Harry on the path of what's right. Professor McGonagall, a pillar of strength and fairness at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. And Mr. Feeny, ever patient, helping Cory Matthews navigate the tricky terrain of adolescence. To each of you, a heartfelt thank you for the positive impact you've had on countless viewers.
But there can only be one champion, and this year, by a wonderful margin, the winner is... LeVar Burton! [Warm applause]
LeVar, what a tremendous accomplishment! Reading Rainbow wasn't just a show, it was a portal to a world of wonder and exploration. You, my friend, opened a universe of stories for so many children, and that's a truly special kind of magic.
Congratulations, LeVar! And to everyone watching, remember, just like in all our favorite stories, there's a teacher within all of us. So, keep learning, keep growing, and keep helping those around you discover the magic of knowledge.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a tiger to feed and a trolley to catch. But before I go, a big thanks once again to all the nominees, and to all of you wonderful viewers! Until next time, peace be with you.

POLLS CLOSE 4/09/24 at 8am EDT
It all comes down to one FINAL vote for the 2024 FINAL FOUR! This year, LeVar Burton and Minerva McGonagall return to the Final Four, and we welcome two new contenders - Albus Dumbledore and George Feeny! Last year's champion was Fred Rogers from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, and I thought it was only fitting that Mister Rogers introduce the FINAL FOUR and highlight some of their merits.
So, I asked Google Gemini the following:
Create a speech for Mr. Rogers who is welcoming the final four teachers left in the 2024 Great Teacher March Madness Competition. Mr. Rogers was last year's champion. The competition began with 68 teachers from film and television. And now only Albus Dumbledore, Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World, LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow, and Professor Minerva McGonagall remain. Make it sound like Fred Rogers from Mister Rogers' Neighborhood and use some of his famous catch phrases.
Here's what Gemini constructed!
Howdy neighbors! Can you believe it? We've whittled our way down from a whole class of 68 fantastic teachers, all the way to our final four! My, what a wonderful journey it's been.
Last year, of course, well, some of you might remember, I had the delightful honor of being crowned the champion. But this year, the competition is heating up faster than a cup of cocoa on a brisk day!
And who do we have left, you ask? Well, gather around the trolley, because we have a truly marvelous bunch. First up, all the way from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, the wise and wonderful Albus Dumbledore! Professor Dumbledore, I remember when you first helped Harry Potter, such a young boy then, and look at him now! You truly exemplify the magic of learning, wouldn't you say?
And speaking of magic, isn't it wonderful how teachers can take us to all sorts of fantastic places? Just like Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World! Mr. Feeny, for years you've been there for Cory and Shawn, reminding them that what matters most is what's inside. Isn't that something to remember, neighbors? There's so much good in all of us.
Next, we have a dear friend to many of us, the one and only LeVar Burton from Reading Rainbow! Mr. Burton, you've shown us that reading can take us on incredible adventures, all from the comfort of our own armchairs. Can you imagine a world without the joy of a good book? I think not!
And last, but certainly not least, we have Professor Minerva McGonagall, also from Hogwarts! Professor McGonagall, you've not only taught some of the brightest witches and wizards, but you've shown them the importance of bravery and perseverance. Just like you said to Harry, "It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!"
To all of our remaining teachers, well, what a tremendous feat! You've inspired students, both on screen and off. I know this next round will be a tough one, but remember, in the land of make-believe, the most important thing is to keep believing in the good that you do.
And to everyone watching, remember to keep learning, keep growing, and keep helping those around you. After all, isn't that what being a teacher is all about?
So won't you join me in a big round of applause for our fantastic final four? They're all winners in my book! And until next time, remember, I like you just the way you are.

The last round was more like the BITTERSWEET 16! I saw many of my great teachers face defeat in the voting. However, one of the things that I admire most about these great teachers is their perseverance. When each of them faces setbacks, they remain committed to the task and to their learners. This I must remember.
For THE GREAT EIGHT matchups, I asked Google Gemini the following:
create a conversation between the following teachers debating why they are the better teacher in each of the matchups
I also created a catchy title for each of our four matches.

The Sorcerer's Baton:
Can Mr. Holland Conduct Himself Against Dumbledore?
Setting: A staff room at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Dumbledore sips tea with a twinkle in his eye, while Glenn Holland paces nervously.
Glenn: (Stuttering) Headmaster Dumbledore, it's an honor to meet you, sir. But, uh, I don't understand why we're here.
Dumbledore: (Chuckling) Ah, Mr. Holland, please. Call me Albus. Now, tell me, Glenn, about your time at John Adams High.
Glenn: Well, sir, I teach inner-city music students. We don't have magic or spells, but...
Dumbledore: (Interrupting gently) But you ignite a passion for music, wouldn't you say? You help young minds find their voice, their harmony in a world of discord.
Glenn: (Surprised) Exactly! But surely at Hogwarts, you're dealing with a whole different level of challenge.
Dumbledore: Indeed. Here, I guide witches and wizards through the intricacies of magic, while also shaping them to be responsible members of the wizarding world.
Glenn: But you have a whole faculty to help. At John Adams, it's just me, my instruments, and a shoestring budget.
Dumbledore: (Smiling) Ah, but the greatest magic, Mr. Holland, lies not in wands or potions, but in the human spirit. You, with your dedication and passion, weave a symphony of potential from limited resources. That, I daresay, is a powerful magic indeed.
Glenn: (Stands a little taller) Well, when you put it like that...
Dumbledore: (Raises his teacup) To educators who shape young minds, no matter the tools at their disposal.
Glenn: (Clinks his cup against Dumbledore's) To that, sir. To that.
Outcome: Mutual respect. Both Dumbledore and Holland acknowledge the challenges and triumphs of their unique educational settings.

They've Faced Cory and Tootie, Now They Face Each Other!
Setting: The teacher's lounge at John Adams High School. Feeny, impeccably dressed, sips tea with a raised eyebrow as Edna Garrett, in a colorful outfit, folds laundry with a flourish.
Edna: So, Mr. Fancypants, they tell me you teach at some posh academy across town. What's it like, molding those rich little snobs?
Feeny: (Stiffly) Hogwarts is a school of magic, Ms. Garrett. We strive to instill a sense of responsibility and ethics in our students.
Edna: (Scoffs) Responsibility? Ethics? Try teaching life skills to a bunch of hormonal teenagers at Eastland. Now that's a challenge!
Feeny: (Raises an eyebrow) From what I've heard, discipline is somewhat… lax at Eastland.
Edna: Lax? Honey, sometimes you gotta meet fire with fire! Those girls need someone to tell it to them straight, to teach them about the real world, not spells and potions.
Feeny: (Sighs) Magic can be a powerful tool, Ms. Garrett. It allows students to explore the unknown, to push the boundaries of human potential.
Edna: Pushing boundaries? Try teaching a girl with dreams bigger than her hairspray how to balance a checkbook! That's real magic, sugar.
Feeny: (a faint smile) Perhaps we both have a part to play, Ms. Garrett. You equip your students for the everyday, while I prepare mine for the extraordinary.
Edna: (Grins) Now that's not something I expected to hear from a fella in a velvet robe. Alright, Fancypants, truce for now. But next time, buy me a cuppa!
Feeny: (Amused) Perhaps, Ms. Garrett. Perhaps.
Outcome: A grudging respect. Feeny recognizes the value of Garrett's real-world approach, while Edna acknowledges the potential for magic (both literal and metaphorical) in education.

The Ultimate PBS Showdown:
Bill Nye's Exploding Volcano vs.
LeVar Burton's Magical Book Journey!
Setting: A brightly lit science lab filled with bubbling beakers and hanging posters of the solar system. Bill Nye, in his signature lab coat and bowtie, bounces with excitement while LeVar Burton leans against a table with a warm smile.
Bill Nye: (Waving his hands) LeVar, it's fantastic to meet you! Reading Rainbow was a cornerstone of my childhood. But let's be honest, science is all about exploration, about questioning the world around us. Can a picture book really compete with a volcanic eruption or a trip inside the human body?
LeVar Burton: (Chuckles) Bill, calm down for a second. Reading Rainbow wasn't just about pictures. It was about sparking curiosity, about opening doors to new worlds, both real and imagined. After all, how can you be a scientist if you can't be inspired by the power of a good story?
Bill Nye: Fair point. But science is about facts, about evidence! My show used experiments and demonstrations to make complex ideas fun. Can you replicate the thrill of launching a baking soda volcano in a living room with a book?
LeVar Burton: (Raises an eyebrow) Bill, the best science experiments often begin with a question, with a story that ignites the desire to learn more. My show planted those seeds, nurtured a love of reading and exploration that could lead a child down a scientific path.
Bill Nye: (Nods thoughtfully) You know, maybe we're not so different after all. We both want to ignite a passion for learning, for discovery. Your show opened minds, mine included, and my show gave those minds the tools to explore further.
LeVar Burton: (Bumps his fist against Bill's) Exactly! Science and storytelling, hand in hand, that's the recipe for a curious and engaged mind.
Outcome: Mutual respect and recognition of the complementary roles of science education and fostering a love of learning through stories.

Will Professor McGonagall Teach Ms. Frizzle a Lesson in Real Magic, or Will Ms. Frizzle's Science Show Spark a Magical Revelation?
Setting: A bustling potions classroom at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Professor McGonagall, stern but fair, observes Miss Frizzle, in her outlandish outfit, struggle to keep control of a bubbling cauldron.
Professor McGonagall: (Frowning) Miss Frizzle, if I may be so bold, your unorthodox teaching methods seem… well, rather reckless.
Miss Frizzle: (With a bright smile) Oh, Professor McGonagall, a little chaos can be quite educational! My students learn best by doing, by experiencing the magic firsthand!
Professor McGonagall: (Skeptical) And by turning their hair purple during a simple shrinking potion demonstration, I presume?
Miss Frizzle: (Waving her hand dismissively) A minor side effect, my dear. But they'll never forget the scientific principle behind the Shrinking Solution!
Professor McGonagall: While I appreciate your enthusiasm, Miss Frizzle, there are certain safety protocols that must be followed in a potions classroom. Transfiguration accidents can be… disastrous.
Miss Frizzle: (Nods) A valid point, Professor. However, a little healthy fear of the unknown can be a powerful motivator for learning, wouldn't you agree?
Professor McGonagall: (Sighs) Perhaps. Though, I prefer to instill a sense of respect for the power of magic in my students.
Miss Frizzle: Respect is essential, Professor! But a little fun along the way never hurt anyone, did it? Besides, who knows, maybe a bit of classroom chaos might just spark a lifelong love of potions in one of your students!
Professor McGonagall: (Raises an eyebrow) Perhaps, Miss Frizzle. Perhaps.
Outcome: A cautious truce. McGonagall acknowledges the potential for Frizzle's engaging methods, while Frizzle respects the importance of safety and respect.

Two weeks ago, we began with 64 great (and maybe not so great) teachers from television and film. We are now down to the SWEET SIXTEEN! There are some really intriguing matchups ahead. At this point in this year's competition, I am really wanting to restructure the entire bracket, but I am going to resist that temptation and just leave it up to you to make the decisions.
I don't really love that Feeny and Keating are facing off at this point in the competition. Also, it looks like we might wind up with 2 Hogwarts Professors in the Final Four which doesn't make me really happy either. Though anything could happen!!!
For the Sweet Sixteen, I asked Google Gemini to provide a side by side comparison of each. Here's the exact prompt:
Give me a pros and cons list for each of these great teacher matchups.
And.... here's what Gemini had to say!

Once again I turned to Google Gemini to create the script for today's matchups.
Here's the exact prompt.
Create a script with two excited sportscasters debating who are the greater teachers in each of these matchups.
Minerva McGonagal - Wizard World VS Yoda - Star Wars
Ted Lasso - Ted Lasso - VS Will Shuester - Glee
Sean Maguire - Good Will Hunting VS Valerie Frizzle - The Magic School Bus
Sharon Norbury - Mean Girls VS Kesuke Miyagi - Karate Kid
Over the course of the past four days, I feel like Gemini is getting better at this. Or maybe today's matchups just feel more exciting. Looking back at and comparing the script for Group 1, this one feels much more alive and witty.
Here's what Gemini crafted!

* **Stacy Finesse:** Brock's partner, witty and quick with her rebuttals.
**(INTRO MUSIC)**
**Brock Stone:** (Slamming his hand on the desk) Welcome back, folks, to the Teacher Throwdown! Today, we've got a legendary lineup of educators ready to throw down in the classroom of champions!
**Stacy Finesse:** (Raises an eyebrow) Brock, throwing down? In a classroom? Don't tell me you spilled paint in kindergarten again.
**Brock Stone:** (Chuckles) Never! But these teachers? They're about to unleash some serious knowledge bombs! First up, we have a battle of the mystical mentors: Minerva McGonagall, the stern but brilliant Deputy Headmistress of Hogwarts, versus Yoda, the ancient Jedi Master from a galaxy far, far away!
**Stacy Finesse:** Now this is a matchup! McGonagall's got Transfiguration in her back pocket, but Yoda's wisdom is legendary. Who would you trust to train you for the big leagues, Brock?
**Brock Stone:** (Strokes his chin) It's a tough call. McGonagal can turn you into a cat! How cool is that? But Yoda's got centuries of experience. I gotta go with the green giant on this one.
**Stacy Finesse:** (Scoffs) Predictable! In our next corner, we have two coaches with unconventional methods: Ted Lasso, the optimistic American football coach in over his head, versus Will Schuester, the ambitious glee club director determined to make his students stars!
**Brock Stone:** Now, Stacy, don't knock Ted Lasso's biscuits! The man brings out the best in his players, even if they don't know how to hold a football.
**Stacy Finesse:** But Will Schuester took a bunch of misfits and turned them into a powerhouse singing group! Can Ted Lasso teach someone to hit a high C?
**Brock Stone:** Maybe not, but he can teach them to believe in themselves! In this battle of the underdogs, I'm giving it to Lasso.
**Stacy Finesse:** Round three is a clash of the unconventional! We've got Sean Maguire, the troubled but brilliant math genius from Good Will Hunting, versus Valerie Frizzle, the eccentric science teacher who takes her students on wild adventures on her Magic School Bus!
**Brock Stone:** Maguire's a raw talent, but Frizzle makes learning an explosion! Literally, sometimes.
**Stacy Finesse:** (Sarcastically) Because nothing says "effective teaching" like strapping your students to a rocket and blasting them off! Maguire may be troubled, but at least he can teach you calculus without turning you green.
**Brock Stone:** Fine, fine. You win this round, Stacy. But our final matchup is a battle of the tough love teachers: Sharon Norbury, the no-nonsense guidance counselor from Mean Girls, versus Kesuke Miyagi, the stern but kind karate master from The Karate Kid!
**Stacy Finesse:** This is a close one! Norbury cuts through the teenage drama with a sharp tongue, while Miyagi teaches life lessons through the art of karate.
**Brock Stone:** Miyagi may yell "wax on, wax off," but he turns a scrawny kid into a champion. Norbury might tell you you're basic, but she'll get you on the right track.
**Stacy Finesse:** Brock, this is too close to call! We need to leave it to the audience! Who do you think are the greater teachers, folks? Vote online and let your voice be heard!
**(Brock and Stacy high five)
**Brock Stone:** Until next time, folks, keep on learning!

⭐️⭐️ LeVar Burton 69% VS Maria Rainier 31%
Master Splinter 39% VS Mr. Ray 61% ⭐️⭐️
Today I turned again to Google Gemini to create a script for the teacher matchups.
Here's the exact prompt!
Create a script with two excited sportscasters debating who are the greater teachers in each of these matchups.
Bill Nye - The Science Guy VS Charles Xavier AKA Professor X - X-Men
Freddy Shoop - Summer School VS Miss Honey - Matilda
LeVar Burton - Reading Rainbow VS Maria Rainier - The Sound Of Music
Master Splinter - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles VS Mr. Ray - Finding Nemo & Finding Dory
With Google Gemini, you are provided three drafts for each prompt. I wasn't totally satisfied with any of the first three because they all "cut to commercial" halfway through the descriptions. So, I asked Gemini to try again. One of the drafts had Reading Rainbow combined with The Magic School Bus. The draft below was the best of the bunch.
I am telling you this because it is ALWAYS important to be critical consumers of the output.
**Scene:** A brightly lit sportscaster desk with two energetic sportscasters, ANNA and MARK.
**Anna:** (Jumps up and down in her chair) Welcome back, everyone, to Teacher Throwdown! Mark, are you ready for a battle of the brightest minds in education?
**Mark:** (Grinning) Absolutely, Anna! Today, we've got legendary educators facing off in the ultimate test of who can inspire the next generation!
**Anna:** First up, a clash of the titans! In the blue corner, the Science Guy himself, BILL NYE!
**Mark:** (Puts on a pair of fake glasses) And in the red corner, the telepathic teacher of the X-Men, PROFESSOR X!
**Anna:** Now, Mark, both these educators are brilliant, but who's the better teacher? Nye with his wacky experiments or Professor X with his mutant mind-melds?
**Mark:** Anna, Professor X opens entire new worlds inside your head! That's powerful teaching! But Nye? He makes science FUN! He makes volcanoes erupt in your living room! Kids are hooked!
**Anna:** Hold on, Mark. We can't discount Xavier's social-emotional learning. He's molding heroes who use their powers for good!
**Mark:** (Sarcastically) Ah yes, social-emotional learning through mind control. This round might be a knockout for Nye's engaging science lessons, Anna!
**Anna:** (Laughs) Okay, okay, let's move on to summer school showdowns! In one corner, the goofy yet determined FREDDY SHOOP!
**Mark:** (Waves a tiny palm tree) And in the other corner, the sweetest teacher this side of Matilda, MISS HONEY!
**Anna:** Summer school can be tough, Mark. Shoop may be a goofball, but he gets results! Remember that unforgettable dance-off finale?
**Mark:** True, results are important, Anna. But Miss Honey creates a safe space for learning, where kids feel supported. She builds future Einsteins by fostering a love of learning!
**Anna:** But Mark, Shoop connected with those kids in a way no other teacher could! He made learning fun and engaging!
**Mark:** Fun? Anna, Miss Honey made them WANT to learn! She believed in them when everyone else gave up. This round is a win for Miss Honey, hands down!
**Anna:** (Smiling) Alright, alright, looks like you're winning the argument today, Mark. Next up, the realm of reading! We've got the dulcet tones of LEVAR BURTON!
**Mark:** (Sits back dramatically in his chair) Ah, LeVar Burton. The man who made us all want to climb aboard the Reading Rainbow!
**Anna:** Exactly! Burton's enthusiasm for storytelling is contagious! But let's not forget MARIA RAINIER, the governess with a song in her heart!
**Mark:** Those songs might have been a bit much, Anna. But Burton opened up a world of literature! He sparked a love for reading that reached every corner of the globe!
**Anna:** But Mark, Maria Rainier brought joy and music back into those children's lives! She reminded them of the beauty in the world!
**Mark:** Anna, come on! Burton's show literally had a magic school bus that took kids on adventures through stories! This round goes to LeVar Burton!
**Anna:** (Throws her hands up playfully) Fine, fine! You're on a roll, Mark. Last matchup, a battle of the aquatic educators! Master Splinter, the sensei of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
**Mark:** (Wipes away a tear) And in the other corner, the gentle Mr. Ray, the teacher who never gave up on Nemo and Dory!
**Anna:** This is a tough one, Mark. Splinter teaches valuable life lessons through martial arts. He's all about discipline and focus!
**Mark:** But Anna, Mr. Ray never stopped believing in his students! He found creative ways to help them learn, even with their learning differences!
**Anna:** This is a close call, Mark. Splinter offers a structured path, while Mr. Ray fosters individuality.
**Mark:** Anna, I gotta go with Mr. Ray. He teaches acceptance and perseverance. Those are lessons that stay with you forever!

After yesterday's success with using Google Gemini to create a script, I decided to test AI out again.
Here's the exact prompt.
Create a script with two excited sportscasters debating who are the greater teachers in each of these matchups.
Annie Sullivan - The Miracle Worker VS Albus Dumbledore - Wizarding World

Now, one of the MORE interesting things about Gemini VS. ChatGPT is that Gemini automatically creates THREE drafts for every prompt! This immediately sets up a CHOICE and an opportunity for critical analysis of text. After reading the drafts, I chose Draft #2!
## The Teacher Throwdown!
**Scene:** A brightly lit sports broadcasting booth with two energetic sportscasters, Mark and Stephanie.
**Mark:** (Jumping into his seat, grabs the mic) Welcome back, folks, to The Teacher Throwdown! Today, we're throwing aside dodgeballs and detention for a battle of the minds - a showdown of the GREATEST TEACHERS!
**Stephanie:** (Pumps her fist) That's right, Mark! We've got legendary educators facing off in a March Madness-style bracket, and it's gonna get HEATED!
**Mark:** In our first matchup, we have a heavyweight bout! Annie Sullivan, the miracle worker who brought Helen Keller out of darkness, versus Albus Dumbledore, the wise and powerful headmaster of Hogwarts!
**Stephanie:** (Eyes wide) Now, this is a doozy! Annie's dedication and innovative methods are legendary. But Dumbledore can whip up spells and mentor future heroes! Who do you think takes the golden apple, Mark?
**Mark:** (Strokes his chin) Tough call. Annie's impact is undeniable, but Dumbledore shapes young wizards who save the world! Gotta give the edge to the magic man on this one.
**Stephanie:** (Playfully shoves Mark) Not so fast! Let's not forget about the power of unconditional support! We'll see how the voting goes!
**Mark:** Up next, we have a clash of coaching styles! Cameron Tucker, the flamboyant dad from Modern Family, goes toe-to-toe with Herman Boone, the tough-love coach from Remember the Titans!
**Stephanie:** (Chuckles) Cameron's unconventional methods might backfire here. Coach Boone inspires greatness through discipline! This one's a slam dunk for Boone in my book.
**Mark:** (Raises an eyebrow) Hold your horses, Stephanie! Cameron may be goofy, but he's got a big heart and a knack for connecting with kids. Don't underestimate the underdog!
**Stephanie:** (Grins) Maybe not, but Coach Boone's got that championship spirit. We'll see who the viewers choose to lead their team to victory!
**Mark:** Now, things get delicious! Julia Child, the iconic French Chef, takes on Carrie Bliss, the fashion-forward guidance counselor from Saved by the Bell!
**Stephanie:** (Laughs) This is hilarious, Mark! Julia Child can whip up a life-changing meal, but Carrie Bliss...well, let's just say her life lessons might come with a side of shoulder pads.
**Mark:** Don't be so harsh, Stephanie! Carrie might not be a culinary genius, but she offers a listening ear and teenage wisdom. You never know, her advice could be life-changing for a lost Bayside student!
**Stephanie:** (Playfully rolls her eyes) Okay, okay. But Julia Child's impact on the culinary world is undeniable. This is a blowout, folks! Vote for the French queen!
**Mark:** And finally, we have a battle of the music rooms! Glenn Holland, the passionate teacher from Mr. Holland's Opus, squares off against Janine Teagues, the energetic educator from Abbott Elementary!
**Stephanie:** (Claps her hands) Now this is a close one! Mr. Holland inspires a love of music that lasts a lifetime, but Janine's got that infectious enthusiasm that can make learning fun!
**Mark:** This could go either way, Stephanie. Mr. Holland's dedication is unmatched, but Janine's innovative approach is refreshing. The viewers will have a tough decision to make!
**Stephanie:** That's right, folks! So cast your votes online and let us know who YOU think is the greatest teacher! This is The Teacher Throwdown, and we'll be back with more educator matchups after the break!
So.... what do you think? I can't wait to see who goes on to the next round!

WELCOME TO ROUND TWO! Last week we began with 64 teachers. Frankly, it was a LOT! Deciding on 8 matchups a day from films and shows that not everyone has seen was a challenge. This week, we are down to 32 teachers with 4 days of 4 matches. There are some really tough choices this week. I fully expect a lot of heartbreak and unhappiness.
So, let me emphasize again, AI made these choices! Most of this is random. Or is it?
Ok, this week, I am turning to Google Gemini for assistance in describing the matches.
Here's the prompt that I used.
create a script with two excited sportscasters debating who are the greater teachers in each of these matchups.
Bob Ross - The Joy of Painting VS George Feeny - Boy Meets World
John Keating - Dead Poets Society VS LouAnne Johnson - Dangerous Minds
Erin Gruwell - Freedom Writers VS Freida J. Riley - October Sky
Edna Garrett - Facts of Life VS John Kimble - Kindergarten Cop
And here's the result!
**Scene:** A brightly lit sportscaster studio with two desks facing each other. Banners with inspirational quotes like "MATHLETES UNITE!" and "LEARNING IS A SLAM DUNK!" adorn the walls.
**Enter Sportscasters, Mark and Stephanie, in brightly colored blazers and ties.**
**Mark:** (Pumps fist) Welcome back, sports fans, to another edition of "Teacher Smackdown!" Today, we've got a legendary lineup of educators ready to throw down in the ultimate battle - who's the GREATER TEACHER?
**Stephanie:** (Claps excitedly) That's right, Mark! We're talking mentors, motivators, the Michael Jordans of the classroom! In our first face-off, we have the soothing stylings of Bob Ross, host of "The Joy of Painting," versus the no-nonsense authority of Mr. Feeny from "Boy Meets World!"
**Mark:** Now, Stephanie, Mr. Feeny could teach life lessons with a raised eyebrow. But Bob Ross? He'd turn detention into a tranquil landscape masterpiece!
**Stephanie:** (Raises an eyebrow) Hold on there, Mark. Mr. Feeny built character! Bob Ross…well, he built happy little clouds.
**Mark:** (Scoffs) Clouds that hold the secrets of the universe, Stephanie! Don't underestimate the power of a calming voice and a strategic brushstroke!
**Stephanie:** (Playfully nudges Mark) Alright, alright, let's move on before you get misty-eyed. Our next matchup is a clash of the titans! John Keating, the free-spirited teacher from "Dead Poets Society," versus LouAnne Johnson, the tough-love educator from "Dangerous Minds!"
**Mark:** Keating's all about seizing the day, Stephanie. But LouAnne Johnson? She walked into a warzone and turned it into a classroom. That's inspirational!
**Stephanie:** (Wags finger) Inspiration is great, Mark, but sometimes you gotta get real! LouAnne Johnson met her students where they were and pushed them to be better. Keating…well, he might get them kicked out of school for climbing on desks!
**Mark:** (Chuckles) A little rebellion never hurt anyone, Stephanie!
**Stephanie:** (Sighs) Let's move on before you romanticize recklessness. Erin Gruwell, the real-life teacher behind "Freedom Writers," takes on Freida J. Riley, the science wiz from "October Sky!"
**Mark:** Gruwell brought together a classroom divided by race! That's teamwork, Stephanie!
**Stephanie:** True, but Riley took a bunch of coal miner's sons and launched them towards the stars! Talk about defying expectations!
**Mark:** But Gruwell defied prejudice! She…
**Stephanie:** (Interrupting playfully) We get it, Mark, you love underdogs!
**Mark:** (Grins) Hey, underdogs bite!
**Stephanie:** (Laughs) Alright, alright. Last but not least, we have the battle of the disciplinarians! Edna Garrett, the housemother from "Facts of Life," versus John Kimble, the undercover cop posing as a kindergarten teacher in "Kindergarten Cop!"
**Mark:** Edna Garrett kept those girls in line! She taught them responsibility, respect…
**Stephanie:** (Sarcastically) And the importance of perfectly coordinated outfits? Come on, Mark! Kimble went undercover in a kindergarten full of chaos and emerged…well, not entirely unscathed, but he did manage to teach them a thing or two!
**Mark:** (Raises an eyebrow) Mostly how to disarm a criminal with playground equipment, Stephanie. Not exactly on the national curriculum.
**Stephanie:** (Grins) Hey, unconventional methods can be effective!
**Mark:** Well, folks, that's all the time we have for today's Teacher Smackdown! Who do YOU think is the greater teacher in each matchup? Vote online and let your voice be heard!
**Stephanie:** Until next time, stay inspired, stay educated, and remember -
**Mark and Stephanie together:** LEARNING IS A SLAM DUNK!
**(Camera fades out)**
