A LONGER LESS FORMAL BIO

Hi. I’m Brian, and I am a geek.

I’ve turned my childhood obsession with puzzles, Pop Culture, technology, and all things Star Wars into a lifelong mission of helping educators to ignite curiosity and recognize hidden brilliance in students.

As the Coordinator of the Academically or Intellectually Gifted Program at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, I prepare educators to creatively challenge minds and emotionally support gifted learners. I’ve spoken at conferences across the country (and the world!) about gifted education, creativity, and the power of play in learning. My newest book, SEED: Silverquicken Episodes for Enrichment and Diagnosis, invites learners into immersive, puzzle-filled adventures that help teachers uncover hidden talents. Think escape rooms meet cognitive and emotional growth. Because learning should always be an adventure.

I’ve also written Fighting Fake News! Teaching Critical Thinking and Media Literacy in a Digital Age, co-authored Using the Schoolwide Enrichment Model with Technology, and have spent the better part of my life teaching and consulting in the world of gifted education.

When I’m not decoding the mysteries of talent development, you’ll find me geeking out over retro video games, fun socks, fonts, all things Disney, and saguaro cacti (yes, really).

Let’s connect! Find me online at brianhousand.com, or if you really want to impress me, just return your grocery cart properly.
