I have been playing a LOT of Animal Crossing New Horizons, and collecting a lot of fruits. Hence, this month's mixtape theme. It turns out there are so many songs that fit into this category. Let's just say that this mixtape is random, but that is one of the things that I like best about mixtapes.

SIDE APPLE
1. Everything In Its Right Place - Radiohead Radiohead is one of the greatest musical artists of all time. Hundreds of years from now, people will still be talking and analyzing this track. "Yesterday I woke up sucking a lemon." 2. Formation - Beyoncé Here Queen Bey not only slays she demonstrates how best to make Lemonade out of lemons. 3. Lemon Tree - Peter, Paul, and Mary I love three part harmonies, and I love how jarring it is to go from Beyoncé to this folk classic. 4. Cantaloupe Island - Herbie Hancock Wow! What a musical career Herbie Hancock has had! From being part of the Miles Davis Second Great Quintet to creating the music for the Fat Albert cartoon series to 1980's surprise hit, Rockit, to this classic. Herbie Hancock can pretty much do all of the things. 5. Orange Crush - R.E.M. My favorite band from my high school and college years. 6. Raspberry Beret - Prince The video for this song really stands out in my mind for so many reasons. This is a great example of how an artist reinvents themselves after a huge commercial success. 7. Strawberry Fields Forever - The Beatles There is so much studio magic in this track. Best with headphones. This one works not only for strawberries, but also for "Cranberry Sauce" which is what John Lennon is repeatedly saying at the end of the song instead of the misheard "I buried Paul." The Paul is Dead conspiracy theory is fascinating, and the internet did not even exist in the late 1960s. 8. Bruises - Chairlift This indie track is just a fun happy jam. Turns out that icing your bruises with frozen strawberries is messy. |
SIDE BANANA
9. Cruel Summer - Bananarama
This is such a summer classic. Featured in The Karate Kid, this is what put Bananarama on the map.
10. Banana Pancakes - Jack Johnson
It is kind of hard not to smile listening to this song.
11. Mellow Yellow - Donovan
"Electrical Banana is going to be the latest craze." There is a lot to wonder about here.
12. Cherry Blossom Girl - Air
This track beat out Cherry Coloured Funk by the Cocteau Twins. I just love the space pop sounds of the band Air.
13. Cherry Bomb - John Mellencamp
Another feel good jam. This one is just fun to sing.
14. Coconut - Harry Nilsson
I positively adore this song for it general wackiness. Putting lime is the coconut is always a good idea.
15. Coconut Oil - Lizzo
I am a late comer to the genius that is Lizzo. This is the title track from her debut EP in 2016 before her mainstream success in 2019.
16. Eat the Music - Kate Bush
I LOVE Kate Bush! Here she drops a whole lot of fruits. The tropical feel is a great song to kick off of summer.
