SEPTEMBER 2021
Well, it's the start of a new school year. And here we go again. I spent most of the summer with my head in the sand like an ostrich hiding from the world. I hoped that the fall was going to be different. I hoped that everything would be back to normal. It's not. It's still weird. It's going to be weird for a long time to come. I listened to a lot of music this summer. And my favorite songs of the summer seemed to be inspired by or unknowingly borrowed from other songs. It started with Olivia Rodrigo's brutal and the riff from Pump It Up by Elvis Costello & The Attractions. It continued with Solar Power's very similar song structure to Freedom! 90. It reminded of the line from Neil Young about paying for this but they give you that. It's kind of how the world seems to be working right now. We keep hoping for THAT but they keep giving us THIS. Sometimes it's a good thing. Sometimes it's not. But through it all, I hold on to the words of the Great Bard of the 21st Century, Taylor Swift, who reminds us that this is FOR THE HOPE OF IT ALL. Enjoy. And let me know what you think. |
