Today's Curious Quotes, Points to Ponder, & Inspiring Insights slide of the day features two of Spain's greatest artists: Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote, and Pablo Picasso. I have always been fascinated by Pablo Picasso's 1955 sketch Don Quixote. There is such a juxtaposition in the image of a simple complexity and a sense of determination despite all rational thought. The quote from Cervantes serves to point out that when we attempt something that seems impossible that there will be no shortage of people to tell us that we are crazy. To them, our goals may seem as foolish at battling windmills.
For this slide, I chose the American Typewriter font and used a black text background. You might also notice that I lined up the text on the righthand side but still inside of the quotation mark. I think that this creates a cleaner edge and serves to frame the quote. To accomplish this, each line is a new line and that begins with a space and a black quotation mark that has been inserted to maintain the spacing. Little things like this can make a big difference. I also wanted to show that you can make a beautiful slide using only black and white. Color can be overwhelming at times and distract the viewer from what you are trying to say. Making something look simple is sometimes really, really hard.
