In this issue of Curious Quotes, Points To Ponder, & Inspiring Insights, famed jazz pioneer Charles Mingus reminds us that creativity is making things simple. Which by the way is incredibly hard. While this slide looks incredibly simple, it required a lot of work. I had to resist every temptation to make it more complicated than it needed to be. I wanted to include a photo of Mingus. I wanted to add color or a collection of album covers. I tried a lot of different things, but they all just turned out weird. In the end, I just went with the American Typewriter font on a white background. Sometimes, quotes just need to speak for themselves.
By the way Mingus Ah Um is one of my all time favorite jazz records and album covers. If you have never experienced it, you owe it to yourself. Also it was part of that magical year that was 1959 in jazz. Sure Miles Davis' Kind of Blue gets all of the love, but I think that Mingus Ah Um is every bit as good.
